What is Trichothecium?

Trichothecium is a fungus genus with no recognized classification. Johann Heinrich Friedrich Link was the first to define the genus in 1809. The genus is found all over the world. Species: Rose Trichothecium

Trichothecium species are widespread, however they only make up a minor percentage of the fungal biota. Arthrobotrys is the closest relative of this genus. Infection in people or animals has not been reported. There is no information on the effects or toxicity of inhalation. There hasn't been any research into allergenicity. Indoor environmental surfaces are regularly found developing. Tape lifts and tease mounts from bulk samples can be used to identify it on surfaces, while culturable (Andersen) and spore trap samples can be used to identify it in the air. (Spores have a distinct appearance.) Decomposing plant debris, roots, seeds, nuts, grasses, twigs, water, and soil are all examples of natural habitat. It is a parasitic fungus that can coat macrofungi with a pink conidial dust. Previously known as Cephalothecium.
