The Starmount area is one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods for growing families, young professionals, and empty nesters looking for a quiet, convenient location close to the city’s thriving art and entertainment scene. This master-planned community is accented by award-winning parks and recreational amenities, including Boomer Park, Starmount Waterfront Park, and the new Tom Reid Soccer field. You’ll also find a wealth of shopping, dining, and nightlife opportunities within a stone’s throw of your new home.
Starmount was founded in 1963 as the first master-planned community in the Charlotte area. It was designed by superstar landscape architect Arthur Letofsky and is known for its wide streets and low-density residential building options. Starmount’s first residents moved in during the mid-’60s, and the neighborhood has grown considerably since then. The community is located in the southern part of the city, just across the Creek from Uptown.
There are a lot of great things going on in Starmount, but we’ll zero in on a few that really stood out to us as we prepared this guide. First up: Boomer Park. This 2.6-acre park is a Charlotte staple, and it’s just a short walk to Starmount’s borders. Boomer Park is a lush oasis in a city known for its lack of green spaces. There are plenty of picnic tables, a playground, and a pavilion with grilling capabilities. Nearby, you’ll find the Fort Charlotte Boat Ramp, where you can tie up your boat and enjoy a relaxing outing at the river’s edge. There’s also a dog park for your furry friends. And as an added bonus, you’ll also have incredible views of the city from Boomer Park.
There are tons of great sights in Starmount that you just can’t miss if you’re moving to the neighborhood. First up: Starmount Park. This is one of the most beautiful city parks in the country, with its stunning views of the skyline and hilly tree-covered scenery. You can’t miss the marble fountain or the stunning sculpture of the Venus de Milo out front. If you’re feeling active, you can head to Starmount Park’s athletic fields, where you can play softball, soccer, or tennis. You’ll also find the Starmount Community Center located inside the park, just a few steps away from the athletic fields.
If you’re looking to get cultured, Starmount is the place for you. The neighborhood is home to museums, art galleries, and performing arts centers. If you have kids in your life, be sure to make a visit to the Discovery Children’s Museum. The Charlotte Center for the Performing Arts is another great spot for artsy types. And if you’re visiting on an autumn weekend, you can’t miss the WXPN Blue Grass Festival at Boomer Park.
Kids will love exploring the neighborhood parks, the neighborhood’s playgrounds, and the Discovery Children’s Museum. If you’re looking for something a little more engaging, head to one of the many museums and art galleries in the neighborhood. You can also take your kids to Boomer Park for a boat ride on the river or a visit to the playground. If you’re looking for a little shopping therapy, make sure to check out the Starmount Village Shops with their curated collections of vintage furniture, home decor, and accessories.
